Falkland Islands, South Georgia & Antarctic Peninsula
A wildlife-rich 19-day expedition aboard the 108-guest Plancius, combining three distinct destinations with Oceanwide’s practical, expedition-first style. The selected 22 November 2027 departure is the Birding Special (PLA22-27).
Exceptional wildlife without paying for unnecessary luxury
This is one of the strongest-value ways to combine the Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica on a genuinely small expedition ship.
Wildlife-focused travellers who value time ashore, capable guides and a smaller ship over hotel-style facilities.
Plancius carries only 108 guests, keeping landing logistics simpler than on many ships operating this route.
She is comfortable but traditional. Cabins and public rooms are functional rather than premium or contemporary.

Three very different polar worlds
Oceanwide’s official film follows this combined route through the birdlife of the Falklands, the huge wildlife colonies of South Georgia and the ice-filled channels of Antarctica.
Day-by-day expedition plan
Landing sites remain flexible. Wind, swell, ice and wildlife determine the safest and most rewarding plan each day.
Embark in Ushuaia
Board Plancius in the afternoon, meet the expedition team and sail through the Beagle Channel.

Across the South Atlantic
Lectures and wildlife watches introduce the seabirds and history of the islands ahead.
Falkland Islands
Explore windswept coastlines and bird-rich islands. Possible sites include West Point, Saunders Island and Stanley, with opportunities for albatrosses, rockhopper, gentoo and Magellanic penguins.
At sea towards South Georgia
Watch for albatrosses and petrels while the team prepares you for strict wildlife and biosecurity procedures.
South Georgia
Four expedition days allow time for immense king penguin colonies, fur and elephant seals, dramatic glaciated bays and the history around Grytviken. The exact sequence is weather-led.
Scotia Sea and South Orkney Islands
Day 11 is at sea. Day 12 is planned in the South Orkney Islands, with a possible visit to Orcadas Station or Shingle Cove, subject to conditions and permission.
Approaching Antarctica and exploring the Peninsula
Days 13-14 are the approach to Antarctica, with a possible afternoon outing on day 14. Days 15-16 are the two full Antarctic expedition days. The plan favours the Weddell Sea and eastern Peninsula when conditions permit, with the Bransfield Strait and Gerlache Strait as alternatives.
Drake Passage northbound
Final lectures and wildlife watches accompany the return to South America.
Disembark in Ushuaia
Disembark in Ushuaia after breakfast. A pre-scheduled group transfer to Ushuaia airport is included directly after disembarkation.
Plancius: small, capable and expedition-led
Originally built as an oceanographic research vessel, Plancius has an ice-strengthened hull, broad exterior decks and a fleet of Zodiacs. Her 108-guest capacity is the real advantage on this itinerary.
