Falklands, South Georgia & Antarctica aboard Hondius
A wildlife-rich 19-day expedition aboard the 170-guest Hondius, combining three distinct destinations with Oceanwide’s practical, expedition-first style.
Three wildlife-rich regions on a purpose-built expedition ship
Oceanwide’s 19-day HDS27-27 voyage combines four planned days around South Georgia with the Falklands, South Orkney and a shorter Antarctic Peninsula visit. Hondius adds contemporary cabins and a private-balcony option while keeping an informal expedition atmosphere.
Wildlife-focused travellers who want South Georgia as well as Antarctica, with comfortable accommodation and an expedition-led programme.
A purpose-built Polar Class 6 ship, 170 guests and sheltered Zodiac boarding support an active expedition programme. Grand Suites have private balconies.
This is a longer sea journey with fewer Peninsula days than a dedicated Antarctica voyage. Landing groups rotate as required; neither ice class nor ship size guarantees a landing.

Three very different polar worlds
Oceanwide’s official film follows this combined route through the birdlife of the Falklands, the huge wildlife colonies of South Georgia and the ice-filled channels of Antarctica.
Day-by-day expedition plan
16 January–3 February 2027 · HDS27-27 · Ushuaia return. This follows the operator’s plan for this departure; weather, ice, landing permissions and wildlife can change the route.
Embark in Ushuaia
Board Hondius in the afternoon, meet the expedition team and sail through the Beagle Channel.

Across the South Atlantic
Lectures and wildlife watches introduce the seabirds and history of the islands ahead.
Falkland Islands
Explore windswept coastlines and bird-rich islands. Possible sites include Carcass Island, Saunders Island and Stanley, with opportunities for albatrosses, rockhopper, gentoo and Magellanic penguins.
At sea towards South Georgia
Watch for albatrosses and petrels while the team prepares you for strict wildlife and biosecurity procedures.
South Georgia
Four expedition days allow time for immense king penguin colonies, fur and elephant seals, dramatic glaciated bays and the history around Grytviken. The exact sequence is weather-led.
Southward across the Scotia Sea
Lectures and seabird watches continue as Hondius leaves South Georgia.
South Orkney Islands
Conditions permitting, Shingle Cove on Coronation Island offers an Adélie penguin colony, rocky scenery and opportunities to see seals and seabirds.
Approaching Antarctica
Continue south among large icebergs, watching for whales and Antarctic petrels. The team aims to begin activities on the afternoon of day 14 if conditions allow.
Antarctic Peninsula and the Weddell Sea approach
Two full Antarctic days are planned. If ice allows, the ship approaches the Weddell Sea and Antarctic Sound, with possible visits to Paulet Island or Brown Bluff. If the eastern approach is blocked, the team may route via Elephant Island and the Bransfield Strait. A passage farther south into the Gerlache Strait depends on conditions and the return crossing.
Drake Passage northbound
Final lectures and wildlife watches accompany the return to South America.
Disembark in Ushuaia
Disembark in Ushuaia after breakfast. A pre-scheduled group transfer from the vessel to Ushuaia Airport is included immediately after disembarkation.
Hondius: purpose-built for polar exploration
Hondius carries 170 passengers in 80 cabins and was built for expedition cruising to Polar Class 6. An observation lounge, separate lecture room, open decks and sheltered Zodiac boarding areas support Oceanwide’s informal, wildlife-focused operation.
