Arctic Canada & Greenland: Circumnavigating Baffin Bay
Baffin Island, Lancaster Sound, the Thule region and Disko Bay aboard MS Roald Amundsen.
Why we picked it
This is a substantial Canadian Arctic and Greenland expedition for travellers who have time to go farther. Its appeal is the combination: Baffin Island’s fjords, exploration history around Lancaster Sound and Devon Island, the remote Thule region, then West Greenland’s icebergs. It adds a different route to the existing Northwest Passage choice in the hub.
Travellers seeking Canadian Arctic landscapes, Inuit communities and expedition history together with Greenland, on a ship with extensive facilities.
A broad circuit linking both sides of Baffin Bay, including the gateway to the Northwest Passage.
This is an attempted route through ice-sensitive waters. MS Roald Amundsen carries up to 490 guests, and substantial changes to the route are possible.

The voyage at a glance
The planned route leaves Nuuk for eastern Baffin Island, continues towards Lancaster Sound and Devon Island, then crosses the northern bay to northwest Greenland. After the Thule region and Melville Bay, the voyage finishes with four West Greenland days. It explores the entrance to the Northwest Passage; it does not sail the passage across to Alaska.

Your expedition, day by day
Nuuk and the voyage north
Fly from New York to Nuuk and embark on day 1. Day 2 is at sea, with Arctic briefings, wildlife watching and time to settle aboard.
Eastern Baffin Island
Three days are allocated to this remote coast. Qikiqtarjuaq, Isabella Bay, Sam Ford Fjord, Gibbs Fjord and Coutts Inlet are possible objectives, subject to ice and community arrangements.

Towards Lancaster Sound
A sea day allows time for lectures, photography and the ship’s facilities as you travel north.
Lancaster Sound and Devon Island
This programme block covers the gateway to the Northwest Passage. Possible sites include Dundas Harbour, Beechey Island, Croker Bay and Coburg Island. It includes navigation time and does not promise four full landing days.

Northern Baffin Bay
A flexible expedition day gives the team scope to respond to ice, weather and wildlife before continuing towards Greenland.
The Thule region
Explore northwest Greenland, with possible community visits and coastal landings. This remote region requires particularly flexible planning.

Cross Melville Bay
A day at sea follows the icy northwest Greenland coast. Join lectures and keep watch from the open decks.
West Greenland and Disko Bay
Four days are allocated to fjords, communities and icebergs. Possible highlights include Uummannaq, Vaigat Sound and Ilulissat Icefjord.

Nuuk and the flight home
Disembark in Nuuk and transfer for the included return flight to New York.
This is the operator’s planned programme, not a promise of individual landings. Weather, sea ice, permissions and community arrangements shape each day. Images illustrate the region and experience; wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.

Activities & time ashore
Guided landings, expedition-boat outings, community visits, lectures, photography guidance and citizen science form the core programme. Some local excursions and small-group activities cost extra. Ice access and local arrangements determine which remote sites can be visited.
Beechey Island, Dundas Harbour and other historic sites are possible objectives near Lancaster Sound.
Potential visits in Canada and Greenland are planned with local communities and can change around their needs.
Watch for seabirds, whales, seals and walrus. Polar bears and narwhals are possibilities, never assured sightings.
