Grand Greenland: The Icy Giants of Disko Bay
Icebergs, fjords and Greenlandic communities, with the comforts of MS Fridtjof Nansen.
Why we picked it
This adds a shorter, focused West Greenland option to the Arctic collection. It combines Ilulissat and Disko Bay with time farther north around Uummannaq, then visits coastal communities on the return south. The flight package and inclusive onboard services make it easier to understand the overall holiday budget.
Travellers prioritising icebergs, Greenlandic communities, onboard comfort and a journey of around eleven days.
Eight planned regional exploration days from Ilulissat through Uummannaq, Disko Bay and the west coast.
Fridtjof Nansen carries up to 490 guests. Outings run in organised groups, and this is a larger-ship experience than the 108–130-guest options in our collection.

The voyage at a glance
Fly to Nuuk, embark and sail north on day 2. Day 3 is planned for Ilulissat; days 4–5 explore Uummannaq Fjord; days 6–8 focus on Disko Bay; days 9–10 visit the central west coast. Return to Nuuk on day 11 for the flight home. The featured operator package uses New York; Reykjavík and Copenhagen alternatives can be quoted.

Your expedition, day by day
Fly to Nuuk and embark
Take the included flight from New York to Nuuk and transfer to the ship. Settle in and meet the expedition team.

North towards Disko Bay
Sail north and cross the Arctic Circle. Attend expedition briefings and join introductory talks before the first exploration days.

Ilulissat Icefjord
The planned visit centres on Ilulissat and views of the UNESCO-listed icefjord. Walks and optional activities provide different ways to experience the area.

Uummannaq Fjord
Explore north of the Nuussuaq Peninsula. Possible visits include Uummannaq or Ukkusissat, with fjord cruising and landings selected around conditions.

The landscapes of Disko Bay
Three days focus on the bay, Disko Island, Vaigat Sound and nearby fjords. Watch for whales from deck and explore by boat or on foot when conditions allow.

West Greenland communities
Travel south with possible calls such as Qeqertarsuaq, Itilleq or Sisimiut. Guided outings explore the coast and life in Greenland today.

Return to Nuuk
Disembark and transfer for the included flight back to New York. Final flight details are confirmed with your travel documents.

This is the operator’s planned programme, not a promise of individual landings. Weather, sea ice, permissions and community arrangements shape each day. Images illustrate the region and experience; wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
