In the Realm of the Polar Bear – a flexible wildlife expedition aboard the 114-guest Sea Spirit.

Why we picked it
Sea Spirit combines a small guest complement with generous suites and a full week allocated to Svalbard exploration. The included hotel night makes the programme easier to plan, while the flexible west-coast and ice-edge approach lets the expedition team respond to wildlife and sea ice. It is a useful comfort step up from a traditional expedition ship.
Wildlife-focused travellers who want a small ship, spacious accommodation and a choice of balcony or dedicated solo suites.
Seven planned exploration days aboard an all-suite ship carrying up to 114 guests.
This is not a promised circumnavigation. Sea ice, wildlife access and local rules determine the route; a bear encounter cannot be guaranteed.

The voyage at a glance
The featured programme starts with a hotel night in Longyearbyen on 13 June 2027. Embarkation is 14 June, followed by seven flexible exploration days on 15-21 June. Disembarkation is 22 June. The voyage concentrates on western and northern Svalbard and the accessible polar ice edge.

Your expedition, day by day
Arrive in Longyearbyen
An included airport transfer takes you to your hotel. The programme begins ashore, allowing time to settle into Svalbard before boarding the ship the following day.

Board Sea Spirit
Transfer to the ship for embarkation. Settle into your suite, meet the expedition team and attend the required briefings before departure.

West Svalbard and the ice edge
Seven days are allocated to flexible exploration. The team chooses among fjords, glacier fronts, tundra landings and accessible sea-ice habitat according to current conditions. Time on deck can be as rewarding as time ashore.
Expect a changing mix of guided walks and small-boat exploration. Kayakers join their separately booked programme when conditions allow; photography guidance is part of the expedition.

Return to Longyearbyen
Disembark on 22 June. The operator lists a group transfer and a two-hour sightseeing tour; we confirm the arrangements against your onward flight.

This is the operator’s planned programme, not a promise of individual landings. Weather, sea ice, permissions and community arrangements shape each day. Images illustrate the region and experience; wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
